The Spotted Lanternfly is a so called invasive species in the US East Coast. It is native to China and Vietnam, and was first spotted in Pennsylvania in 2014.
Many cities have called for their citizens to exterminate the bugs, fearing harm to the hardwood tree and other agricultural industries.
Several years on, it seems that they aren't as damaging as predicted.
And yet, people still go around stomping on any lanternfly they see.
I think people shouldn't be killing them -- they deserve, just like all living things, to not be treated as vermin.
I think they're beautiful.
